5/6/2023 0 Comments G1 slapdash spoilerAnd we all know Hasbro loves easy and quick cash grabs. Yeah I realize no one outside of G1 has heard of him. Inferno has been repainted into Hot Spot so many times that I lost count. Hasbro LOVES making repaints out of something simply because two characters share the same alt mode. He is a Headmaster that came around in Season 5, and he transforms into a fire engine. You think there would be an update to Hosehead by now. I am not counting 3rd or 4th party products. There are G1 TFs where there’s no update now, but their update is coming.Yes I know that not having a real G1-style update sucks, but not having being updated at all sucks more. Even if a TF got a lame repaint of something else, or got revived as a Micron (like Titan Masters), or got a completely butchered Movie-verse update, that counts as an update. This list is for G1 TFs that got no update whatsoever.I am not including any Action Masters.I present below my top 10 G1 Transformers that desperately need an update today. And that’s where I got the inspiration for this post. I can think of way better G1 characters to update. Heck, they even did all the Monsterbots ( Doublecross, Grotusque, Repugnus). They updated Duocons ( Battletrap and Flywheels). For example, they updated Jumpstarters (both Topspin and Twin Twist). Now as I write this in 2020, and looking back, Hasbro has updated some TFs that seem as if they were reaching for the bottom of the G1 barrel. I wrote back in 2009 how I wished Sixshot would get an update, then in 2017 it became reality. Even more obscure characters would later get updated. Characters from the first 2 G1 seasons usually got earlier treatment. And as the years went, more and more would be updated. Many G1 favorites were updated in the line, sometimes multiple times.ĬHUG obviously started with some of the most popular characters, like Optimus Prime, Megatron, and Bumblebee. CHUG (Classics, Henkei, Universe, Generations) draws inspiration mostly from G1. Hasbro certainly did not forget us older fans that grew up with the franchise. Now in 2020, I’ve been recollecting for 16 years, as long as my hiatus. When I came back to collecting the toys in 2004, it was returning from a 16 year hiatus where I paid little to no attention to what’s going on with the toyline. We got Crosshairs, but where is Pointblank and Sureshot? Now I’m hoping that HasTak would get to doing all the Season 4 Autobot Targetmasters. Triggerhappy is my favorite among this threesome.Normally I would agree, but all 3 figs turned out so good that I’m choosing to ignore this inaccuracy. G1 purists would scream bloody murder at the fact that all 3 are Titan Masters, and in G1 they were never Headmasters. In alt mode, there’s really no good way to attach the Battle Master weapon figs.HasTak did introduce enough molding differences between the 3 so they each feel like a unique fig. Triggerhappy was the first mold, and Misfire and Slugslinger are re-works off the same mold. All 3 base figs follow the same scheme. Some quick thoughts as I look at this trio: Misfire, Triggerhappy, and Slugslinger in alt mode. Today I feature all 3 Season 4 Decepticon Targetmasters in their modern CHUG updates, together with their weapons. The weapon figs are called Battle Masters. Hasbro would not get to releasing their respective weapons til later, in the War of Cybertron line. However, they were updated as Titan Masters (Headmasters in the modern day). All 3 has been updated for the modern day, between 20. The Decepticon Targetmasters for Season 4 were Triggerhappy, Misfire, and Slugslinger. Headmasters were the featured figures of Season 4, but I have said many times that I like Targetmasters more than Headmasters. Season 4 introduced the “Master” gimmicks, with Headmasters and Targetmasters. The figures were better designed, better built, and had some interesting new gimmicks that would forever be part of the TF landscape. But I felt Season 4 had better toys than Season 3. I have a thing for TFs out of Season 4 in G1. And I can’t believe we are yet at another year of the Tiger. The 2020s have got off to a really lousy start, and I am hoping 2022 will reverse that trend for this decade. Happy New Year and Happy Lunar New Year! This is my first post in 2022.
